mig33 shifts global operations to Singapore

by Kenny Lim    19-Nov-09, 10:24

SINGAPORE - Provider of mobile content and entertainment mig33 has relocated its global operations to Singapore.

This relocation follows mig33’s recent launch of its mobile games. The move is thought to bring the company closer to its key growth regions and emerging markets with vibrant mobile phone cultures.

mig33 provides a variety of communications and entertainment services for over 30 million members and their mobile devices worldwide with members in more than 200 countries in Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East as well as South and Southeast Asia.

Prior to this, mig33 had also inked deals with Indosat, the largest mobile provider for youths in Indonesia, and with several Indian Premier League cricket teams, in which mig33 developed and introduced mobile fan clubs.

“We felt that Singapore is the right place for us to build our company further and turn the mig33 brand into the Tencent for the rest of the world. Singapore has that unique combination of quality infrastructure, great location, a qualified human resource pool, and of course a favourable government and investment environment that made it our choice for our new global headquarters,” said Steven Goh, co-founder and CEO, mig33.

“Asia is one of the fastest-growing regions in the world, and in terms of mobile and social networking provides enormous potential for our growth. We’re very excited with this move as it helps put us right where the action is, at the centre of a thriving and flourishing region,” said Steve Boom, executive chairman, mig33.

Founded in 2005, mig33 is backed by Silicon Valley venture firms Accel Partners, Redpoint Ventures and DCM.
