Lam Soon appoints DDB to handle Knife in Hong Kong

by David Blecken    27-Nov-09, 10:16

HONG KONG - Lam Soon Oils & Fats has appointed DDB as creative agency of record for its Knife edible oil brand in Hong Kong, following a pitch that included one other undisclosed 4As agency.

The Omnicom Group agency will be responsible for Knife’s communication strategy, which is expected to focus on TV, print and outdoor sales and promotions and “brand refreshment”, according to a statement.

Knife is the leading producer of edible oil in the market. DDB Hong Kong’s president and chief executive, Richard Thomas, described it as “one of Hong Kong’s most recognisable brands”.

“We are excited that working together with Knife, we are able to continue our focus on iconic Hong Kong brands and help them gain an unfair competitive advantage for their business,” Thomas said in the statement. The agency also works with Vitasoy, a Hong Kong-based beverage and dessert company.

Lam Soon also operates in mainland China, with production facilities in Shenzhen. Other edible oil brands produced by the company include Red Lantern, Gold Cup, Tsing Tao, Fortune Star, Vecorn, Golden Coin and Soon Brand.

In China, DDB recently assumed creative duties for Shanghai Volkswagen’s Passat brand and developed a global TV ad for the Chinese Government.
